I have been asked by a world wide web site to do an article on the above subject as they recently published a story expressing the view that they have NO affect! I disputed this quite vehemantly and they are now interest in printing a retraction. If anybody has an incident that positively identified the culprit as a cell phone, please provide me with details at:
[email protected]
Bear in mind that if the incident is accepted, then it will be published on their web site for all to read. The item will ne "anonymous" with no reference to names, aircraft, dates or airlines.
Thanks
Ian Fischer

Here's a link to a report published by the British CAA:

Interference Levels in Aircraft at Radio Frequencies used by Portable Telephones http://www.srg.caa.co.uk/news/Gsm_intf.PDF

There have been other reports and studies as well, but this is the most recent.

Interesting story in November's Aerospace International.

Bombadier's Dash 8 Q400s have been grounded. Apparently mobile 'phones in the luggage in the cargo hold have been triggering the smoke alarms in the hold forcing emergency landings.
