Hi all,
Quick question for any A340 crew out there (particularly those working for VS).
I'm coming back from Delhi next week on standby ID90 on VS,equipment is A340-300.I've checked the weather and temperatures ranging between 40-48 degrees C have been forecast.I am an ex VS dispatcher so I know that this will probably have an adverse effect on the take-off weight from DEL.....if memory serves,TOW is 257t (262t for CF6 version).
Anyway, what I'd like to know is how badly the TOW would be affected...are we talking a few tonnes or more like 10-15t ?If this is the case, the non-rev pax like myself could be stuck in Delhi, which is obviously a problem.
Also,BA are using B744.....would this a/c be subject to a similar degree of weight restriction?
Thanks for your help,
777 :ok:

Hi there
The 340 does not have a weight problem out of Delhi as a general rule. However at this time of year it can be a little tight, as we are the only carrier leaving during the heat of the mid-day sun. The saving grace is the flt time is about 9.30 so the fuel load is relatively short. All in all you will probably be all right. Good luck:D

Not with VS but our A340s have a MTOW of 275T.

To put you in the in the ball park, in this equates to about 36degC, still wind.
If you then look at 50degC the RTOW is only 240T.

Up to 36 to 40degC, a 1deg temp change is worth about 2.5T....but above 40degs this just about doubles! ie: Abv 40deg performance is very poor!

At 48deg I bet she accelerates down the rwy at the speed of a 2-legged tortise on crutches! :ooh:

Thanks for your replies guys,it actually makes a fair bit more difference than I originally thought but you have put my mind at ease!
I've been doing standby for about 7yrs and have never really worried about weight restrictions before until now! Also interesting to see how relatively low fuel load is compared to when it used to operate on the B747 Classic.....no surprise there!
Thanks again chaps (especially 4PON4PIN for your pm)
