Yesterday (Sunday) I watched a Sea King helicopter (I think) helping out with some air/sea rescue training in Kinsale harbour which is near to Cork in Ireland. The same thing happened last year, and the helicopter is actually from Britain, although I don't know if its Navy or Air Force. Does anyone know what the arrangement is here? Thanks.

I'm pretty sure what you saw was a coastguard S-61. CHC helicopters have a few coastguard contracts around Ireland, if it was coloured red and white then most definately was one of these. On the mainland, Shetland and Stornaway, Bristow Helicopters have the coastguard SAR contracts with the same aircraft.

Royal Navy Sea King from Culdrose. Seems to be resident for the last few days.

Thanks for that; the helicopter was red and white so you've answered my question.

Just looking at another post on another forum with a link to the Irish air corp web site;

The helicopter I saw looked remarkably like the Sikorsky S61N. Same colour etc.
