Good News for a Change

After what seems a lifetime of constant bad news in UK media, I woke this morning to my local radio station’s 7am news, with two good news stories for aviation

BA making a profit and back in the black.

School children in Honk Kong going back to school today after 6 weeks off.

Sorry for bucking the trend by bringing you some good news

Finally, Low-cost airlines are not the only ones making money. Sounds more like the reverse is true !

Good news for Asia ! After all, we're all part of one single world.

Hate to dampen the spirits.... but BA's headline figure hides some nasty realities....

1. They are currently losing money very quickly... last quarter showed a loss of £200m, so the trend is not good;
2. Whilst they have accounted for the Concorde charges (£86m ish), they still have to face the withdrawal costs from another few bases (PLY and NQY)....;
3. They have a nasty hole in the pension fund (£1B +).

Premature celebration....?

I have to go along with Twinaisles on this. Unfortunately, the "headline" did not tell the whole story. For the first quarter of this year, BA's loss was the same as for the whole of 2001!:uhoh: :uhoh:
