CFM Streak Shadows

Having how got 150 hours of PA28 flying and no longer prepared to put up with the rental costs, I'm thinking of going down the microlight route and have been looking at either purchasing or joining a Streak Shadow group. Does anyone have any advice on the aircraft regarding purchasing costs, running costs, and where you can convert on to these types.Ive heard they are supposed to be great fun to fly. Any achilles heels I should be concerned about?. Any comments would be appreciated

Don't know if this helps (I am not too familiar with this type) but it might be worth giving these guys a ring. They operate CFM Shadows.

Alternatively do look at some of the more modern permit types, better still come to Popham this weekend and many people will try and sell them to you and ply you with brochures.

Haven't flown Shadows myself however the pilots I know who do swear by them! Downside is the rear seat is a bit cramped.

The Shadow Centre at Old Sarum might be near enough to you to get a closer look.

My father operates & owns a Streak Shadow at Old Sarum & loves it.

Cruise between 80 - 90 kts, although very low inertia. Great in the front seat, horrible in the back. Great STOL performance, about 2hrs range.

According to the latest PFA magazine, microlights can now be hired, albeit with no passengers. A very significant step forward for budget flyers.

I'd suggest you check out your local rental prospects before you commit to a group.

Lovely aircraft. Easy to fly; easy to maintain; climbs like rocket; lands on a sixpence (excellent slow-speed handling); cockpit like a sailplane - wonderful view; but back seat cramped.
