I have been looking at plenty of UK flight stores and all of them fail to provide American charts, understandably. Anyhoo...I am jetting off to California in July to do some flying around CA, Arizona and Nevada, and would like to do some preliminary flight planning to see where I can go! Does anyone know where I can get hold of some USA Sectionals/Terminal charts.

This is the website of the people who make the US maps. You should be able to order direct from them.

You can't actually order from the naco website - try Sportys (http://www.sportys.com) .

And if you're not doing anything with your charts when you get back and want to pass them on to a good home .................. ;)

Whenever I fly in the US I subscribe to Aeroplanner - for a few quid for the planning and the time that I'm there. You can get to look at charts for free, for example: http://map.aeroplanner.com/mapping/chart/chart.cfm?typ=city&txt=Los%20Angeles%2CCA

Thanks people! I went to avshop and got some WAC's so that I can just have a general at the area. Does anyone know where I can find a list of "Must go to's" and general advice about flying in Western America?

cheers

I've got various out of date sectionals/terminal charts for the west coast, e-mail me with an address, let me know where you fancy going and I will send you the sectionals/terminal charts. Page, Arizona was very nice and with avgas at $2.20 a gallon was a must. Very scenic but very bumpy ride, windshear on final very very interesting!

It's funny how, from a UK perspective, you would not even think of looking but US sectionals can be viewed on line at Maptech

http://mapserver.maptech.com/homepage/index.cfm?lat=36.175&lon=-115.13639&scale=25000&type=2&zoom=100&bpid=MAP0060030900&latlontype=DMS&searchscope=dom

(Cut and paste the link into your browser or just go to http://www.maptech.com and follow the links to aeronautical charts)

Can't say how up to date they are (but they do show the new-ish VFR routes at Las Vegas, for instance) but they are certainly good enough for pre-trip evaluation purposes.

So how about the CAA/OS agreeing to a similar release of data then? All together now....

OBK,

I know it may be tempting to purchase old sectionals from someone but DON'T, there have been many changes since 9/11 to airspace around major cities, powerplants, military areas, etc.

I would strongly suggest reviewing all current NOTAMS prior to starting your flying vacation so that you are somewhat familiar with them, then when you go through them again prior to flying the minor changes will be easier to digest.

Enjoy your vacation,

Mike

If you have not received enough info so far, contact vippilot.com
this is a Canadian site in Montreal, connected with the Canadian Owners and Pilots Ass. They have charts for all of North America and Mexico.
