From McGraw-Hill's Standard Handbook for Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineers again, p. 18.13 I note that a flight delay costs $10,000/hr, a flight cancellation $50,000/event and an in-flight shutdown of engine $500,000/event. Rankin et al 1998 listed as the source.

Is there any truth at all to these horrendous figures?
