Does anyone know how to get a job working for the AAIB and what experience/qualifications they require?

jonnyg Suggest you start by looking here: AAIB (http://www.aaib.dft.gov.uk/).
I have colleagues who work for them who previously had been very experienced pilots or engineers and often had a training background, in these modern times a degree in psychology might be of more use!
:D
Best of luck,

Have a look at the Air Safety Management MSc at City University, London:
http://www.city.ac.uk/pgrad/engineering/asm.htm
It covers a range of current safety issues and is very contemporary. The AAIB, easyJet and others have staff members on the course.

AAIB advertise in Flight and via the Capita RAS agency, often at the back end of the year so that they can have people in post before the 6 week Air Accident Investigation course at Cranfield which is after Easter each year.
Blue Eagle - I believe for engineers they still advertise requiring degree and /or CEng + minimum 5 years experience (meaning more like 10 - but age under 35). Ops inspectors: ATPL + 'several years' command of heavy metal or offshore helicopters (and less picky over the age).
As predicted this week's Flight carries the ad for 2004 starts.
A massive 6 jobs up for grabs - engineers and ops inspectors.
Pay starts at £51,576-56,733.
Go to www.capitaras.co.uk and search for reference B7412. Application forms can be ordered online.
