Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone knows, or knows where I can find out, the noise levels within current commercial aircraft.

I know the JAA/FAA etc don't have set standards, but would like to know what they are (my uni lecturer is curious for our aircaft design project!). Which aircraft is noisiest? Which is the best? I need actual values if possible.

Cheers,

Jason

Cannot give you any definitive values but the A320 flight deck always seemed a lot noisier that the B737.

For the flight-deck, the Fokker 100 is fairly noisy. Having the engines down the back means that, for balance purposes, the air-conditioning packs are directly under the pilot's feet. The 146 is pretty quiet up front, although noisier for the passengers, being closer to the engines. The 737 comes somewhere in between.

146 cockpits pretty quiet???

Not the ones I`ve ever flown!! The intercom has to be used to speak to the guy beside you, and above 250kts it sounds like standing in the middle of a hurricane!! Touching Mmo [not that IŽve ever done that!! ;) ] provokes a whistling like a kettle boiling!!!
