Alpha is short for angle of attack... the alpha floor is the max angle of attack at which in an Airbus the alpha floor protection comes on and the airplane produces TOGA-thrust.
On the PFD its the beginning of the amber-black-blocked-band.

Alpha Floor is an Autothrust mode that selects Full Power to prevent the a/c from stalling. Full power is maintained and even with full back stick the a/c will not stall. The max angle of attack is Alpha max and in normal law (normal flight mode) this can not be exceded.
