Heard someone early this morning (about 05.30) using the callsign "Ozzie 338".

Is this the Prince of Darkness himself! He didn't have a Brummie accent and he wasn't using the f word, though!

Any ideas who uses this callsign.

This isn't totally relevent to your question, but you might find it interesting nonetheless.

I fly out of an airport about 120 miles from downtown Chicago. It's a national guard base, and last year a squadron of F-16s was temporarily based here to provide air cover for Chicago and Detroit in the event of terrorist activity.

The F-16s would regularly scramble for practice, using the callsigns of "Angel 1" and "Angel 2". A few times, however, they used the callsigns "Devil 1" and "Devil 2", indicating that S*** was going down.

I and other pilots were briefed on the F-16 activities at one point. We were told that, during a scramble, by the time the F-16s were exiting the airspace (~4.4nm away from the airport), they would be passing through 300kts and 10,000 feet.

They supposedly were able to reach downtown Chicago or detroit in only a few minutes.

Prince of Darkness? Fairly close, but not quite...

Would have been Royal Australian Airforce BBJ with Prime Minister John Howard.
