Anyone know what the minmum airspeed would be for a C130 with the ramp down at 10,000 ft and dispatching parachutists.
I am looking to see if a Twin Squirel - doors off - would be able to keep up and manouver for a TV programme

Might wanna put this in the Military Forum, plenty of Herc drivers in there.

Max speed is 150Kts CAS with the ramp or para doors open.

Min speed is, of course weight-dependent but not too many Herc drivers would be keen to go below 100.

110 to 120 realistically, IMHO.

Thanks - Rotary will have difficulty at that speed

As I remember (spent a few years driving Albert), normal para drop speed is 125kts whether ramp or door extraction. Speed limit with para doors open is 250kts, 150 while opening (and 150 for the ramp). Normal threshold speed is about 115kts, so you won't find anyone going below that except during a tactical landing, or at the top of a 'Khe Sahn' approach.

USAF Airspeed for jumpers is 125 kts. When we dropped the basic trainees at Ft Benning we dropped them at 120 kts.

At those sort of drop speeds and heights you would need either the Gazelle or Hughes 500, but with doors on, not many other copters out there could keep up or even attain that sort of Alt without full oxy kits:eek:

Peter, oxygen isn't needed at 10000ft, only above. Try taking your Robbo up that high sometime:eek:
