Ok, this is dumb... I am studying for my CFI at I am using the PTS
for a study guide.

So, II Area of Operation, Technical Subject Areas, Task F,
Navigation and flight planning, #7 Diversion to an alternate and #8
Lost procedures.

Anyway, they say that the references are FAA-H-8083-3, and AC61-23.
I can't find either of these subjects in either of the references.
Of cource, it's probably in AC61-21.

So what gives? Anyone come across this?

I was at a recent FAA safety seminar for CFI’s where the new PTS was the topic of discussion. They mentioned the diversion task was gone but the lost procedures requirement was still in there. I would guess that with GPS, diverting to another airport is a “no-brainer”, press nearest & airport buttons.

The new PTS is downloadable from the FAA website and I hear it’s about 60 pages.

They lied then, I just downloaded the most up to date, off the FAA website. Both lost and diversion procedures are in there, yet they are not mentioned in the reference.

Sigh.. I know what to do, and I know where to get the info from a varity of sources, but I was trying to rely on just the FAA reference materials for the CFI.

Ah well.

Just my 0.02... Don't rely solely on FAA stuff but try to broaden your CFI culture as your future students are NOT FAA stuff ! :D
