Hello,
I was just curious as to why the Boeing 757 has different Front Passengers doors?

Door Style #1 (http://www.airliners.net/open.file?id=277050&WxsIERv=Qm9laW5nIDc1Ny0yNEFQRg%3D%3D&WdsYXMg=VW5pdGVkIFBhcmNlbCBTZXJ2aWNlIChVUFMp&QtODMg=RXZlcmV0dCAtIFNub2hvbWlzaCBDb3VudHkgLyBQYWluZSBGaWVsZ CAoUEFFIC8gS1BBRSk%3D&ERDLTkt=VVNBIC0gV2FzaGluZ3Rvbg%3D%3D&ktODMp=U2VwdGVtYmVyIDE4LCAyMDAy&WNEb25u=Um95YWwgUyBLaW5n&xsIERvdWdsY=TjQ3MVVQ&MgTUQtODMgKE=VGhlIG1vc3QgYmVhdXRpZnVsIG5vc2UgaW4gdGhlIGFpcmN yYWZ0IGJ1c2luZXNzLiBOb3QgdG9vIHJvdW5kLCBub3QgdG9vIHBvaW50eSw gaXQncyBwZXJmZWN0ISBVbmRlcmdvaW5nIGEgbWFpbnRlbmFuY2UgY2hlY2s gYXQgdGhlIEdvb2RyaWNoIGZhY2lsaXR5LiBOaWtvbiBDb29scGl4IDUwMDA sIDg1bW0u&YXMgTUQtODMgKERD=NjMw&NEb25uZWxs=MjAwMi0wOS0yNQ%3D%3D&static=yes&size=L)

Door Style #2 (http://www.airliners.net/open.file?id=264966&WxsIERv=Qm9laW5nIDc1Ny0yRzU%3D&WdsYXMg=QmVsYWly&QtODMg=WnVyaWNoICgtIEtsb3RlbikgKFpSSCAvIExTWkgp&ERDLTkt=U3dpdHplcmxhbmQ%3D&ktODMp=QXVndXN0IDE3LCAyMDAy&WNEb25u=T1NUIEF2aWF0aW9uIFBob3RvZ3JhcGh5&xsIERvdWdsY=SEItSUhT&MgTUQtODMgKE=&YXMgTUQtODMgKERD=MjQ4&NEb25uZWxs=MjAwMi0wOC0yMA%3D%3D&static=yes&size=L)

I realise the first style is the freighter version of the B757, will this affect the Front Door, opposed to a Passenger Model?

I believe the difference is in the regulations governing evacuation of large numbers of passengers as opposed to the small number of crew on the freighter......

JMC.

Doors #1 & #2? What exactly do you mean by this ident? In my time on the type door #1 was the foremost door and #2 was the 2nd aft door in the fuselage, fwd of the wing. Do you mean this?

Etops.

I doubt this can be true as, if I'm correct, all B757 freighters are pax conversions. I can't believe the costly conversion would involve different doors.

Hello,
Thank-you. I am referring to Door #1 i.e the door nearest the cockpit :)

Both of your pictures are of the L1 on the Boeing 757. Picture #2 is a standard Door which would be fitted to L1/R1, L2/R2 and L4/R4 on the Boeing 757-200. This door opens outwards, is fitted with a single lane slide (L2/R2 are double) and is power assisted on opening when armed. Doors L3/R3 are of different design, as are the overwings incorporated to some B757 variants.

All Boeing 757's involved in the carriage of passengers have picture #2 as the standard normal use exit, and I doubt whether the door in picture #1 (which I have never seen before) is actually fitted with a slide. As it is a freighter, I suspect the primary means of evacuation for the flightdeck would be escape ropes.

Any more thoughts?

Cheers,

Picture 1 is of a 757-200PF (Parcel Freighter) built especially for UPS. There is only the one passenger door on this type and I assume that they moved it as far forward to give maximum cargo capacity (weight not being as much as issue on parcel delivery as bulk)

As Rat 5 said, most 757 Freighters are conversions from pax models so they will still have the original door 1 in place.

The 757 200PF also differs from other 757's in that the aircon packs are slightly different and the flight deck is supposedly identical to a 767 to give commonality for the UPS crews.

There is a bit more info on this type at the Boeing website and Janes World A/C

Hello,
Thanks for your reply, it's alot clearer now. However, Jet II you say that UPS have the flightdecks idectical to thier 767's, would this include the fuel dump that the 767 has on the 757? As far as I know the 757 doesn't have fuel dump because it can land full weight, the 767 can't and so has the fuel dump, so does the UPS 757's have fuel dump?
