Flying into Heathrow the other day, was I not mistaken in hearing an Australian accent on Final Director? My FO didn't agree with me. Can anybody help with that one? (Just to score points....of course!!!!)

Sure is and he's a real nice guy - he replaced me on Y Watch, although he's been at LTCC for a while now.

Yep we've got one in the tower aswell.

To be fair he does ATC as secondary employment to supplement his income as a barman:)

Damned colonials.....they're everywhere these days....

funny thing though, not too many UK accents in the ME...bit too warm for you chaps?

Not warm, but tiresome, what with all those resident x-pats talking about how to spend/invest their tax-free Riyals, Dirhams, etc., and what a c**p country home has become on the basis of their last fleeting visit, and what 4x4, yacht, Philippino house-maid they're going to buy next! Oh, and a little less ice in the next sundowner please, and hasn't it turned out nice again, etc. etc. etc...

Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt...and THANKS BUT NO THANKS MATEY - it would drive me spare!

There ain't much that's 'Great' left in 'Britain', but "a desert near you" it ain't.

Abraham- Drive you spare is right! What, with their incessant whinging about how they can't get any decent competition in cricket, or any other sport. Prattling on about the endless cuisine choices- even though you can't get a decent egg and chips. Their kids are forever running around happily, getting under your feet. And the wives! You'd think they would strive for the Range Rover, gold jewellery and tan. Not drunk enough, I say. I tell you, they have taken over the club! There's hardly any talk of Eastenders any more.

Now what was all that about?

Perhaps you Brits whine about your country of origin, but we Aussies don't generally behave in that manner.

I am very glad for you that you have the tshirt...perhaps you could put it on under your thermals???

BTW, I see that you are under a blanket of ice and snow at present, with what Sky news describes as a "bitter gale", is that the reason for your attitude?

This part of the world is a great place to live, unless you are the type that complains that it ain't like home of course.

Ahh blue skies, 26C, gentle zephyr coming off the mountains, harsh winters day really.

take a chill pill...

D-D

Didn't mean to instil animosity amongst the antipodean contingent - in the main just lamenting a mate who moved out to what is possibly "a desert near you" with his missus, only to turn into an incorrigible bore who spent all his time propping up the bar at the sailing club while his good lady wife turned into what I believe is referred to locally as a 'Jumeira Jane'. Saddest thing was that there were so many similar 'clones' to them - figured it must be something to do with the heat/humidity!

Net result - turned down an offer of similar employment, which I don't regret doing for one second - but if it suits you, all well and good - perhaps you Aussies are more used to it than the Brits, so enjoy!
