US Airways Plans More Caribbean Expansion, Files for Grenada, St. Kitts & Nevis Service From Philadelphia.

US Airways has filed an application with the U.S. Department of Transportation to begin once-weekly nonstop service to both Grenada and St. Kitts & Nevis from its Philadelphia hub beginning early 2002.
Subject to government approval, US Airways would operate once-weekly roundtrip service to each destination on a year-round basis using 120-seat Airbus A-319 aircraft.
In the filing, US Airways said the proposed service between the United States and both Grenada and St. Kitts & Nevis will provide for nonstop service by a new entrant carrier and enhanced competition in these markets.
From Philadelphia, US Airways serves the following Caribbean destinations with nonstop flights: Aruba, Bermuda, Cancun, Grand Cayman, Montego Bay, Nassau, San Juan, Santo Domingo, St. Croix, St. Maarten and St. Thomas.
US Airways also serves the Caribbean from Baltimore Washington International (BWI), Charlotte, N.C., New York (LaGuardia), Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh. US Airways Express serves Marsh Harbour, Treasure Cay, North Eleuthera, and Governors Harbour from Florida.
US Airways will begin nonstop service between Philadelphia and Barbados on Nov. 3, 2001, and will introduce nonstop service between LaGuardia and Freeport, Grand Bahamas, on Nov. 4, 2001. US Airways will add Charlotte-Aruba on Nov. 10, 2001, Charlotte-Cozumel on Jan. 12, 2002, and Charlotte-Freeport, Grand Bahamas, beginning Feb. 2, 2002. US Airways also will introduce service between Philadelphia and Antigua on Dec. 8, 2001, and between Philadelphia and St. Lucia on Dec. 15, 2001.
Besides the 15 Caribbean destinations currently on the US Airways system, US Airways, the US Airways Express carriers, US Airways Shuttle, and MetroJet fly to 189 destinations worldwide, including 38 states in the U.S., and the Canadian destinations of Toronto, Montreal, and Ottawa, and in Europe, Amsterdam, Brussels, Frankfurt, London, Madrid, Manchester, Munich, Paris and Rome.
