View Full Version : Landing lights - Flashing

A few weeks ago, I was getting off the train at Stevenage, directly under the approach to Luton's westerly runway.

It was dark and I observed a narrow body twin on approach. Being directly underneath it, I could not see any logo but the underbelly was plain white - so not many clues.

The main landing lights were pulsing alternately, like 'hazard' flashers on a car. I have not seen this before (inside or outside of aircraft) and was wondering if it is a new idea to make a/c more visible?

Thanks.

Its exactly what they do - give greater visability and help with bird dispersal. In the cockpit you would have a switch, if fitted, for the landing lights marked Off/Steady/Pulse

Hmm not sure if this link is going to work. There has been a full discussion on this subject in the questions forum. Go to the questions forum page 3.
