Most local radio reports state it was a cargo Boeing 737. However, DHL 727 sounds more likely. Good to hear all ended safely. Hopefully it burnt some of the fog that has been lingering in these parts for the last few nights :D

Well, to be honest Hogg , I certainly don't understand your statement! All ended well with no injuries to any parties. I'm sure the crew probably exchanged a joke or two about the incident themselves. So I don't see any harm in Electric Sky's comment.

since when has fog burnt?
Water droplets have difficulty burning. However, add smoke to the fog your get smog which is denser than fog. Oh yeah, and the smoke from a burning a/c tends to be very black!

Off topic a bit but...
FIDO - Fog Intense Dispersal Of (I think!)
WW2 method by which fog was dispersed by burning thousands of gallons of fuel through burners situated along the runways of RAF bases.

Some of the replies to my post are beyond belief.
However, I refuse to lower myself to argue this and therefore apologise to all those who think I harbour a sick sense of humour and sorry to those who are upset by my lack of knowledge of the properties of fog.

BBC report is also incorrect-BCS 727, aborted takeoff rwy 27, RVR500, fire in no1 which was put out by the rffs, who were on site within 60seconds. Runway closed for about 40mins one EXS A300 in the hold.(OODHW I think!)

Well i found it humorous ES , you can't win sometimes on here !
If you'd made it into a drama instead , you'd be accused of being a drama queen :rolleyes:
I think that if I had been one of the crew on said aircraft, having looked after all the red lights and turned off all the whistles, I don't think I would have been in the mood for a joke !!

I agree with Skyrabbit!! If I cried every time I shut down an engine for a little Fire I wouldnt have a job. Wait a minute..I don't have a job. Anyway, we are trained and trained to deal with engine fires and its NO BIG THING!! Just something a little less boaring to talk about afterwards in the Bar!:rolleyes: :D

I have'nt the foggiest what most of you are talking about !
Lets not cloud the issue, you lot, please.
I've had an engine fire and all I can say is that the fire handle light looked a hell of a lot brighter and redder than it did in the simulator ! We put it out -- end of drama thank goodness ! Drama is when it does'nt go out I reckon -- then it's no joke !
We had a joke and a laugh afterwards; It's a good way of relieving tension, apart from being a common pilot trait ("The Right Stuff" and all that c**p) !
PS -- I love another poster's signature - "You only have too much fuel when you're on fire !" :D

Fog Intense Dispersal Of?
Do you really think the wartime crabs would have come up with anything so clumsy?
It was Fog Investigation and Dispersal Operation
Used at the purpose built emergency landing fields along the east coast such as Manston. In fact the huge brick-built petrol tanks used for the operation at Manston are still standing alongside the Ramsgate road.
