Hi...Just wondering why, at LHR, a 747 had no flashing beacons on, yet two engines were running. Dad was airside and informed me and asked me to find out, as he said that he was aware (and so am I being an aviation enthusiast/pilot - PPL), so any explinations??

Was the aircraft parked on stand? Unlikely (though still possible) that both upper and lower beacons were u/s, so most reasonable explanation is that two engines were being run for engineering troubleshooting or to prove some rectification action on a defect and the beacons were quite simply missed on the checklist and/or forgotten.
