READ FIRST, THEN FOLLOW THE LINK TO THE VIDEO AT THE BOTTOM:

NTSB Identification: LAX87LA190 . The docket is stored on NTSB microfiche
number 35617.
Accident occurred Sunday, April 26, 1987 at RUBIDOUX, CA
Aircraft:HUGHES 269B, registration: N101DN
Injuries: 1 Minor.
A HUGHES 269B WENT OUT OF CONTROL AND COLLIDED WITH THE GROUND DURING A T/O
TO A HOVER. THE PILOT HAD PURCHASED THE AIRCRAFT RECENTLY AND WAS GOING TO LEARN
TO FLY IT. HE WAS SCHEDULED FOR HIS FIRST FLIGHT LESSON ON THE DAY OF THE
ACCIDENT. THE CFI REPORTED THAT HE HAD TOLD THE STUDENT PILOT TO WAIT FOR
HIM AND NOT TO TOUCH ANYTHING. WHILE WAITING FOR THE FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR, THE
NON ROTORCRAFT RATED STUDENT PILOT STARTED THE AIRCRAFT, RAN IT UP TO FULL
RPM, AND THEN BEGAN TO INCREASE THE COLLECTIVE PITCH CONTROL. THE HELICOPTER
CLIMBED VERTICALLY TO A HIGH HOVER AND THE PILOT LOST CONTROL. THE PILOT
STATED THAT HE HAD NOT RELEASED THE CYCLIC FRICTION BEFORE BECOMING
AIRBORNE. THE PILOT INDICATED HE HAD ABOUT500 HOURS OF FLIGHT TIME BUT DID
NOT SPECIFY THE TYPE AND NO SUBSTANTIATION OF THE TIME COULD BE MADE.

Is this guy naked or something. My network filter won't let me look at "sex" sites!!

After seeing what was done to the helicopter, then I guess it could be considered a "sex site"! :D

It's part of the new training philosophy - send 'em all solo and train the survivors.

At least it was his own helo that he mangled, imagine how much poo he would be in if it had been one of the training schools!

(I love the bit in the vid where it goes all wobbly as the camera man legs it behind the nearest aircraft)

Couldn't get the video, but did look at the site.

Blenderpilot - what exactly were you looking for when you found this??

Nah, he didn't earn a Darwin award or even an honerable mention onfortunately. Since he survived, and presumably still retained his ability to reproduce (im guessing) he can unfortunately still spread his seed. A shame for the rest of us, as his offspring will also undoubtably do their own part to drive insurance rates up.

I got the link from a post in rec.rotorcraft, but from what I have read in previous posts the site from where it downloads must have to something with a sex site, sorry I didn't know this.

Would have been interesting to see how he would have fared with the friction locks off... :D
