Thanks to the chaps up front for keeping us folks in the back in the picture as far as letting us know what the delay was all about the other night. Always nice to get some kind of explanantion.

One of the reasons given for the delay was that the low pressure at EGPD, coupled with the fact that we were heavy, was putting the aircraft (737-700) on the edge of its performance envelope.
The crew made the decision to off-load catering rather than leave a few bags in ABZ.

To what extent does the atmospheric pressure affect an aircraft of this type and would the short(ish) runway at EGPD contribute to these actions being taken? Would we of got away with it at EGGW or EGKK perhaps?
