View Full Version : CAP 509'r upgrading to ATPL

I completed a CAP 509 course at CCAT three years ago and the time has finally come to upgrade my frozen ATPL to the 'real thing'.

I was led to believe that on finishing I would have completed all of the P1 criteria for the ATPL. (I had zero time on start date) I now find myself in the position of having over 1500 airline hours but only 93 P1 hours. Having just read the CAA criteria it looks as though I,m going to have to fork out for seven hours P1. . .Is anyone else in the same position?

If not could you please advise me on how many P1 hours you gained on your CAP 509.

Sorry to change the topic, but could I just ask how you got on at CCAT? Were you self sponsored?. .How did the rest of your course fare in gaining employment on completion?

I may do an integrated course there in the future so some feedback would be great <img src="wink.gif" border="0">

BRONZEAGE:. .Check out the link below, it gives you all the info on the JAA ATPL. I am in a similar position as you, but I am sure we had over 100hrs P1 on our 509 course. (BAe FT Prestwick.) I will be applying for mine soon, but haven't heard of anyone with any problems. Good luck. <img src="smile.gif" border="0">

Thanks for the replies,. .I,ve now managed to get through to the CAA. I,m told that although I only have the minimum 93hrs P1 supplied by a CAP 509 course and not the required 100hrs for ATPL, it,s not a problem if you studied on an approved course.

JT8. .Although often criticised by many on this site I would say that CCAT was excellent. The ground school was second to none (even a thick sod like myself got first time passes) and as long as you battle for an aircraft in flight school you should have no probs.

I found the whole set-up very friendly and professional and was put forward to three companies on leaving.. .Cheers and good luck. <img src="wink.gif" border="0">
