Very sorry to hear it - was up and about around that time at Benson, not too far away - there were a few heavy showers / CB around, but these were pretty isolated so should have been avoidable, so presumably it was something else..?

Condolences to all concerned...

srs what?

Aircraft was a Slingsby. Do OATS have Slingsby's? From memory I think they do.

Nope they use the Zlin 242 IIRC.

There are some local operators that use Slingsby's but obviously it would be pure speculation as to who this aircraft belonged to.

Probably best to wait until more is known, initial reports about crashes are notoriously unreliable.

Condoleances to all that are involved.

1. The aircraft concerned was a Slingsby T67 Firefly.
2. It was operated by a Kidlington-based training organisation, not by OATS.
3. The aircraft was being used for training at the time of the accident.
4. The names of the deceased, including a good colleague of mine, have not yet been officially released.
5. No speculation please; let the AAIB complete their investigative work.

My sincere condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of those killed in this accident.

Hi BEagle,

Very sorry to hear that one of the deceased was a good friend - I know exactly how you feel...

A tragedy like this causes devastation to so many people.

Lets wait for the report - no speculation - lets learn by the findings.

Sad times indeed.....

Agreed: sorry you lost a mate BEagle... my comments on the wx weren't meant as speculation: just local info.

Unfortunately I also knew one of the occupants, also a very good mate of mine and a very experienced aviator who was studying for his QFI rating.

I have heard from his, naturally highly distressed, wife that the cause is as yet unknown. We will all learn from it in due time.

My deepest condolences and sympathy to his wife and family in this time of loss.

Aviation is dangerous, a thought we should never forget.:(

Paul - Me too. I had flown with both of them.

Can I therefore echo the condolences once more. Both will be sadly missed.
