View Full Version : Wind

So the South East is battered again by gales, been listening on and off to tower arrivals at EGLL which makes for interesting listening.

I guess it could be worse, the wind, though strong (30 knots gusting over 50) started at 250 and at last listen, was blowing straight down 27L at 270

Any specific procedures that you follow when landing in such conditions? manual/auto throttles? autoland? If you're airspeed is showing as 140 knots, is this likely to be around 100kts ground speed in such a wind? what would be the lowest ground speed you'd be likely to experience landing an airliner?

interested to know whether its a different procedure in anyway landing today

Thanks
