Does a self funded type rating cut any ice with the airlines and

1. Where can you do it
2. How much B737 for instance.
3. Do the airlines accept a self funded rating as Ok or is it just a few extra grand down the tubes.

$14,800 for a 737-300 in Canada $7,800 for a 737-200 but the latter is probably about as much use as a rating on a Lancaster depending where you want to fly.
Very interesting topic as this I`m hoping will give me an edge over other wanabee`s.
Will I be proven wrong ?

Personally, I don't think you should have to self fund your rating however, if it will guarantee a job then go for it. With Zero hours on Type it could be as much use as Lancaster rating like Yan Yan said. Airlines like to see hours on type.

Thinking of the same myself however experienced types all say it is little use with no time on type.

It used to be for instance that Southwest required a B737 type rating if you wanted to apply there (though not anymore apparently). I don't think time on type was required.

The generally held feeling, as v1rotate correctly states, is that a rating with zero hours on type is virtually worthless. The only advantage it may give a candidate in a jobsearch is that it displays a level of committment.

However, in summary, don't bother, in ain't worth it.

Rafat and V1rotate are a absolutely right. Normally the airlines want to see some hours on type. The normal figure is around 500. But maybe you can try your luck on a Biz-jet, where the requirements are usually a bit lower.

Good Luck !
