G'day Guys,

Does anyone have a picture of the 747-400 ER flight deck, tried a few places on and off the NET and no luck!

What are the improvements to the flight deck?

thank you.

DW:)

Think a terrain profile can be shown and it's flat panel displays right now.

I believe that's a standard 747-400 flight deck shown in the pix referenced above. I don't know if there are any differences in the ER.

In terms of the cockpit differences to the current -400...

The displays are now LCDs instead of CRTS, there is a new collins whizbang multi-scan radar and the standby instruments are glass instead of analogue. The cockpit also has additional soundproofing. It has a terrain display for the ND (don't fly into the red bits), but some existing -400s already have this.

Do a search (also try dunnunda and godzone) to find out the technical details of the extra centre wing tank, beefed up landing gear etc.

There are many minor differences. One I noticed is that the cargo fire suppression capability has been increased from 195 minutes to 215, I guess because it will be spending longer in the air.

Sick, Boeing says that the CRTs on all new -400s regardless of type, will be replaced by LCDs at the end of 2002. I'm not sure if the other cockpit mods will carry over to the standard -400s.

Sick - dunno. I'm guessing that if they aren't standard they could be fitted at customer request. There are a million and one things that can be added as options (just like your fav car I suppose) such as auto nacelle anti-ice, analogue standby HSI, electric seats, look up/down TCAS, GPS - the list goes on.
