Question about the charts - most of the pilots I have talked to carry the Jeppesen Charts. Are there other companies outside of the U.S. who publish these?

Also on any given international trip - what charts does one carry. Are there specific alternates on the route because I would suppose that you don't carry a chart for every international airport in the world - or do you?

I think Aerad are now published by Thales which was formed when Racal and Thomson merged. Certainly when my nephew was working for them last year they were part of the Thales group. I agree with your comments about the relative merits of the two charts though.

Even though I'm a helicopter pilot, if I'm on an international ferry flight I carry the full set of Jeppesens for every country over which I'm flying or could conceivably have to divert to or over. In a helicopter this can be a significant weight, but I've found it to be very necessary, especially in Europe.
