Five unhurt as plane crashlands

A light aircraft with five people onboard has sparked a full-scale emergency after its wheels collapsed on landing.

The Piper Seneca aircraft skidded along the runway at Glasgow Prestwick International Airport in Ayrshire, but remained upright.

The incident happened at 10.27am.

Emergency crews were immediately at the scene.

The four passengers and a crew member were unhurt. The flight had taken off from Stapleford, Cambridgeshire.

A spokesman for Glasgow Prestwick Airport said: "On landing at Glasgow Prestwick this morning, the landing gear of a Piper Seneca light aircraft collapsed.

"The aircraft was inbound from Stapleford near London Stansted. Four passengers and one crew member were on board. There were no injuries. There was no fire. The aircraft remained upright."

The airport remained open during the incident and there are no delays to scheduled services.

The aircraft is being removed from the runway.

As regards your question LEA ? I don't think so. 5 pax and fuel ? Sounds a bit too heavy for an AOC flight. Unless they were all jockeys, in which case it wouldn't have been an AOC job anyway! :D

The flight originated from Stapleford and went to Prestwick on the day of an Ayr race meeting.

Five to one on that they were jockeys :D

Wasn't LEA, believe it was a privately owned seneca.

If it was a non-aoc "dodgy" charter I hope that they get the book thrown at them, they have been going on for ages out of Stapleford by some rather disreputable characters.

Last time I flew over Stapleford it was in Essex which by definition means that there will be some disreputable characters around :D :D

wish i'd known b4 i placed mi bets chappies, we all know it was the jokeys prob not frankie though. DO!

Maybey there is some allowance because they are so small they are not classed as real peaople and thats how they get around the rules and regs, plus if they r not real people that must mean they pay in some sort of special jokey money! Just an idea. Yes thats why he landed wheels up! to allow them to step down easier. Should still fly with bent probs (ask Oxford). P.s Wasn't LEA.:confused: :confused:

Who has control of course it's a compliment, all those reputable characters can get dead boring :D :D

My dad met some disreputable characters in Stapleford. Bombed him out of his bed and woke him up after a night on the pop. It was a long time ago though, late 1940 I think he said it was.....

LownSlow - Thats strange, my Dad had a similar experience at North Weald. He was up on the hangar roof painting it. I believe that the 'in' colours that year were Dark Earth and Dark Green, in large irregular patches.

Anyway, one of the less sociable neighbours from down south over the water came over, decided that he wasn't overkeen on the colour scheme & expressed his displeasure with a stream of cannon shells.

You don't get that on 'Changing Rooms' do you?
