We saw the LH A-340 tonight, and had never seen any airlines at the new building, other than old NWA and KLM. Could it be a replacement gate for the regular international terminal?

You're correct...... LH move to the new terminal, BA stay for a bit longer up at the old international terminal. Plan is to turn the international terminal site into an engineering area for NW.
---------- UPDATE-----------

Just come back from DTW (08 Sep 2002). The ground staff indicated that LH moved their operation down to the new terminal last Wednesday. BA is now pushing for a move; no firm date is set, but they hope to have moved by Feb 03.

The old international terminal is being demolished from its northern end, so it can only be a matter of time.......... although a Premier card holder indicated that he found the (small) size and location of the international terminal makes it more user friendly when compared with the new one.

The big disadvantage is the immigration hall can only cope with one widebody arrival at a time - which meant it was very important for BA to beat Lufthansa into DTW. Moving Lufty out of the terminal has taken all the fun out of it......! ;)
