I remember the circular radar displays at Blackpool some years ago. Black background and green graphics giving a very clear sharp picture. I think there was a Plessey AR15 on the other end but I don't remember seeing any SSR data. St. Anne's was only the other side of the fence if needed. Humberside's first radar display was also a black/green number but bigger than the Blackpool stuff. Probably the same model as used at West Drayton during the CCF trial. Cossor maybe ?

RAE started replacing the original AR1 consoles with Cossor Compass 9000 consoles (to enable display of SSR labels) in about 1981 however the green phosphor was found to be too 'hard', there was no persistence so Cossor were prevailed upon to change to a softer orange phosphor which they did after much argument. These lasted until the Watchman replacement programme 10 years later however the Watchman radar, being fibre optic rather than copper wires, wouldn't interface with the C9000 consoles so these were sold to NATS for use at Prestwick.

Is that the old UNITER UKADGE Console ?
That was for fighter control not ATC use. (UKADGE = United Kingdom Air Defence Ground Environment)

Thankyou chevron. Do you know what the displays are in the photographs? Leeds Bradford had units like those in the 'double' display from the late 1980s, being used with both the ACR430 and the Watchman but primary only. When SSR arrived in about 1993-94, FR colour (raster?) displays were installed.

The displays selected for CCF 'Executive and Support' ops which were never used were I believe 23 inch not 16 inch.
