don't want to start a JAA vs FAA debate but would like to hear views on how and why the JAA/CAA has the IR after the BCPL. For those of you who have also trained under FAA and then converted - what are your views on the same?

shon - I can't pretend to fully understand your question, but if you are asking (what I think you are asking) "Why do you have to do the I/R after the commercial "check ride" - and not before, as is often done under the FAA scheme of things?"....the answer would be...."You don't"

Not only can you take the I/R before the commercial, but the CAA actually recommend it.

If that is not what you meant, ask me again.

Maybe a new question might clarify the previous one.

What is the path to CPL and ATPL under the new JAA OPS system. My understandig is that the old procedure used to be

PPL - IR- MULTI- CPL - (1500h Airline Experience - ATPL).

Is it still valid? Are there any new exams....

No, you could do the path all sorts of ways.

I did PPL IMC Night Multi CPL IR ATPL.
