Noise abatement - seems 16L/R being used even in v light winds these days. Policy change?

What's the policy on the STARS, is the longest one always assigned first, to be changed to a shorter one to be changed at <when allowed? > for vectors?

Thanks for a great service.

Nope, no noise abatement. Purely wind dependant. Although 16 is easier for the 0400-0600 inbound peak as they're predominantly from the southeast.

L/R 'long' STAR's from the north should only be issued during busy periods (puts aircraft on the 'correct' downwind) otherwise the shorter V STAR from the north should be used. Approximate distance to touchdown should be passed on the 'long' STAR's for fuel planning.

How come the same few SIDs from 34 get used which have dozens of aircraft overflying the Pearl at low altitudes every 2am peak, every 2 minutes, every night? When there are plenty of SIDs which head out to sea? And why no NADPs at least?
Only about 40,000 people are affected :)

Because the SID's that head out to sea don't go in the direction those flights are departing to.......!

The only thing wrong here is that there is only one departure every 2 minutes, there should be two😈😈😜

Of those 40,000, 39,999 are probably QR staff.

"Of those 40,000, 39,999 are probably QR staff".. How is this relevant?

Having the SIDs pass by just 1nm east of the Pearl would improve things hugely. Then they can get on their way up the Gulf. I don't get why heavily loaded aircraft, often on the limit of their performance envelopes, are aimed straight at 60+ x 26 storey buildings 4 miles from takeoff when there's open sea immediately to the east. Again, why no NADPs, even?

On the subject of the Doha SIDs and STARS, why have all these altitude restrictions when 99.9% of the time the ATCs instructions have to include the word "unrestricted" ? Just seems that they don't work for the ATCs and the ATCs end up manually vectoring flights most of the time. Did the ATCs have any input into the design of the new SIDS and STARS for the 2022 changes, or were they just foisted upon you guys?

The arrivals come in east of the SIDS so there's not much room in that direction. The SIDS have been altered slightly through the years but it doesn't matter where they put them because they'll keep constructing buildings in the way.

"Unrestricted" is often (perhaps always?) used to keep things simpler and safer.
