Hi, what is required to be a simulator instructor? I have ALTP(frozen) and experience on B-737C in addition to Military flying.
Only because you mention the 737, CASS 725.124(4)(d) (https://tc.canada.ca/en/corporate-services/acts-regulations/list-regulations/canadian-aviation-regulations-sor-96-433/standards/standard-725-airline-operations-aeroplanes-canadian-aviation-regulations-cars#725_124) applies for Air Operators:
(d) Qualifications and Responsibility of a Training Pilot (Synthetic Training Device)
(i) Qualifications
(A) hold or have held an Airline Transport Pilots Licence or equivalent and an Instrument Rating appropriate for the class of aeroplane;
(B) have completed the air operator's ground school and synthetic training device program for the type of aeroplane;
(C) have successfully completed within the past 12 months a pilot proficiency check in the synthetic training device or aeroplane for that type;
(D) know the content of the Aeroplane Operating Manual (if applicable), Aeroplane Flight Manual, Operations and Training Manuals and as applicable the Approved Check Pilot Manual and the air operator Standard Operating Procedures for the aeroplane type, and the provisions of the regulations and standards; and
(E) have received instruction on the operation of the synthetic training device from an instructor qualified to operate the synthetic training device.
A frozen ATPL does not cut it because, frankly, Canada has no such license. You either have it or you don't, there is no "frozen" in Canada, despite many CPL holders with their exams written attempting to say otherwise. It's a feel-good phrase that carries no weight. In fact, when hiring pilots in a previous life, if a pilot told me they had a "frozen ATPL," they'd go to the bottom of the pile. If you're going to lie about what license you hold, what else are you going to lie about? OK, rant over!
If you go the contract route or work with CAE or FlightSafety, my understanding is you still have to meet (or have met) these requirements. At the moment, you don't, but that doesn't mean that you might not meet the requirements to teach in the simulator for a smaller aircraft type operated under CAR 703 (https://tc.canada.ca/en/corporate-services/acts-regulations/list-regulations/canadian-aviation-regulations-sor-96-433/standards/standard-723-air-taxi-aeroplanes-canadian-aviation-regulations-cars#723a_98)or 704 (https://tc.canada.ca/en/corporate-services/acts-regulations/list-regulations/canadian-aviation-regulations-sor-96-433/standards/standard-724-commuter-operations-aeroplanes-canadian-aviation-regulations-cars#724a_115).
