Now we are to be on reserve on layovers: stay in your room, able to leave at a moments notice, unable to plan anything. They can just get f**ked.

That sounds more like Standby than Reserve.

How many pilots have left since December 2019?

Par for the course working for an organization without a binding employment contract and in a jurisdiction without labour laws. Do yourself a favour and move to a first world country. Hong Kong is moving backwards. It’s not a stable and secure location to work in or raise a family.

Well try this on for size: CX are paying the HK Gov $1.52 Billion dollars as a special dividend for their support during the pandemic. CX also announced they have no need for the $7.5 billion loan from the govt and the draw down date expires this week. So where did the 1.52 billion come from:

Compare a 2019 annual tax return statement to a 2022/23 one. Captains earn around $700k less than 2019.
FO earn around $400k less
SO earn around $200k less.

800 captains + 1000FO + 600SO = $1.1 billion dollars in wage savings alone. Don't forget the other costs they've cut.

How do you like them apples?

it’s okay! They’re giving new joiners access to staff travel from the DOJ! I wonder how many emails were send out with different keywords?

1. Feedback from brushwingers, we have decided to…..
2. Feedback from new cabin crew, we have decided to…..
3. Feedback from the legal department, we have decided to…..
4. Feedback from the IT department, we have decided to,…..

and so on…..

And you have to be ready within 45 minutes 🤡 how is that even supposed to be possible when you are jetlagged on a layover? RIP crew safety

CX could have offered unpaid leave to those 170, but they didn't..

I doubt that figure is correct. Even so, the total number continues to go down.

Even it was 170, it in no way replaces the drain of the last 2 years of experienced and competent operators ! I believe it’s not as bad as last year but there is still a small stream of pilots leaving .

Check your crew link seniority list - less than a dozen captains have returned so far.

Since Covid we have lost a total of 1500 pilots and (re-)hired around 400

More to come for sure

Grow a pair. Like all other duties, if you are not fit for duty, don't operate. Their problem.

Some parties get $1.5bn for their support. Others get coconut water and praise of resilience.

Sure have. Never been called to the office to explain myself either. I keep my call to Crw Ops short and factual: "I have been unable to get adequate rest, I can't safely operate this flight due to fatigue, I expect to be fit for duty by XX:XX". I also make sure my hotel room usage indicates I was trying to rest should they go checking.

Babyjet dodo you are an embarrassment to what was once a fine profession.
Please publish your roster so that I can make sure my family never fly's when you are operating.

Far better to fly sick. Risk passing it on to your fellow pilots and of course operate the aircraft while impaired by illness. Professionalism at its finest. The company will give you a gold star on your report card

A senior line captain at CX now earns less than a regional jet captain in the US. Let that sink in... (oh, and lives in the worlds most expensive city on top of it).

And the family still think he's overpaid. If you weren't born a Swire, you were born to serve a Swire. The privilege should be enough, we shouldn't have to pay you as well!

And for suffering the conditions imposed upon you, you shall be granted higher seniority and the benefits that it brings. For this reason, Swire and their underlings deem it no longer necessary to improve conditions or pay bonuses.

So go forth and celebrate, as there are things given by CX that others cannot gift so quickly.

Can someone define "Reserve". Obviously not "Standby" or "Available". As someone else said; "Sounds more like Standby".

After arrival, of course, you must have min rest. If disturbed within that period, very brave fellas could say so and restart the min rest.

During defined layover, Companies would love to have access to you but it is quite hard to define. A bit of give & take appears to be adopted by most outfits.

Most airlines have a better relationship so in case of a disruption down route, the individual pilot will probably help out.

Not in CX of course
