Delayed flight question

If an airline is claiming a greater than 3 hour delay was caused by ATC when it appears that no other similar flights were being delayed is there any way of checking the veracity of the claim by the airline?

How long ago was the flight?

Expert Flyer has trial free subscriptions where you can see the airline’s delay code, but only for a few days after the flight.

Which airline are we talking about? Flyertalk forum has some great resources, depending upon airline (PM if you’d rather…).

Genuine question.
If an aircraft picks up, say, an hour ATC/CTOT delay on a certain leg, and then the knock on effect means that on the following leg they file a revised EOBT due to late arrival and then pick up an hour CTOT on top of that, does it go down as a 1 or 2 hour ATC delay?

From my experience (handling several major international carriers at the biggest airports in Germany) in this case you would allocate a late arrival delay code until ATA +minimum turnaround time and from then on go ahead with a CTOT delay.

I recall reading a little while back that, although airlines frequently told their passengers that delays were caused by "ATC issues", only around 5% of delays to commercial flights (worldwide) were caused by ATC.
