For some months I've been frustrated by totally blank screens, or just the item being written about being blank.

Saab's post! https://www.pprune.org/jet-blast/650995-war-film-theme-starting-beethoven-s-fifth.html#post11373184 Blank except for This isn't a signature

Samples:

https://www.pprune.org/jet-blast/634174-friday-memes-part-1-a-47.html#post11369675 Nothing whatsoever.

https://www.pprune.org/jet-blast/634174-friday-memes-part-1-a-47.html#post11369675 down a bit Kill Trash Two black screens containing only letters/operation on top line.

https://www.pprune.org/jet-blast/564927-bluebird-back-action.html#post10242360 Typed line okay up to : then the offered item a blank screen.

https://www.pprune.org/jet-blast/650995-war-film-theme-starting-beethoven-s-fifth-2.html#post11375036 Typed lines top and bottom, Nothing in bulk of screen.

i5 based PC running Windows 10 fully back up. Firefox 109.0 up to date. Tried MS browser. Tried properties and kick-starting from there. No luck.

Very late. Will add later.

The links, if such they are, do not appear i.e.there is a blank posting.
Not a matter of huge import and assumed to be sourced from Facebook or similar.
HP SFF desktop operating W7 64 bit, Firefox browser and Avast AV.

From this thread (https://www.pprune.org/jet-blast/647715-uk-politics-hamsterwheel-mk-iv-164.html), the first image is what I always see when a YouTube link is posted (nothing), the second shows the link when a Reply Quote is selected.

iPad with current version of Safari, whereas my MacBook Pro with Safari shows the YouTube every time. Queensland Australia, but the same problem in Sydney, Melbourne and all places visited in the last six months that this issue has been reported to IB on the other (closed) thread.

In response to SP's request, my own experience is as follows.

When I post a meme, it's invariably sourced from FB and can be viewed at the time of posting and thereafter

When I post a link from YT, this can be viewed initially, but, subsequently vanishes when I leave the thread. Equally, other posters attaching clips from YT cannot be viewed either. Others have suggested clicking on "reply " and the link will appear, and, whilst this does happen, clicking on the link to open doesn't work.

Clicking on links contained in threads to other sources, invariably does work however hence the issue seems to be YT related.

Hope this helps with the fault finding.

Is everyone here accepting third party cookies on PPRuNe? I know many of you are UK-based, which falls under DPA 2018/GDPR rules about autonomy in regards to cookies. I know others are in Australia and don't have that kind of issue. My suspicion is that there are multiple issues affecting YouTube embeds that people are experiencing.

Does anyone have any kind of content-blocking software (including ad blockers) that they are running?

A few things I'm noticing. Loose Rivets, your first couple samples (well one, they are the same post) have a link that I believe is just simply dead or otherwise bad. John, you're in desktop skin on mobile, which is not officially supported and tech isn't going to invest time in that. If you switch to mobile, it should be fixed.

This is an example of a post that gives me a blank space. They don't all come from the same poster and occur throughout the site (at least, the bits I look at). I have always assumed it's because I use Ghostery which blocks trackers and cookies so far as possible. It's not a biggie as I don't use Facebook and would be unlikely to follow a link to it. Likewise, I rarely follow links to videos.
Hope that's of some use!

Safari 16.1
MacOS 13.0

I posted a YouTube link, which showed up correctly after my initial post. However, upon refreshing the page, the YouTube image was replaced by a blank space.

I subsequently had a reason to edit my post. The YouTube image showed up again after the edit, but disappeared again after refreshing the page.

I have just re-edited my post and can confirm that the edit behaviour is repeatable - "Now you see it, now you don't."

Help! Any computing skills that I had, seem to have gone into a spiral dive now I'm in my 80's.

I offered some examples of blank screens to Saab - I think, during his communication with IB. Sorry to talk across you, Saab.

Anyway, I'm frustrated again by not being able to see anything beyond the poster's two lines of text. The subject is of interest to me as the hardest part of getting my ATP 30 years ago was interpreting ATC. And I lived in Texas for spells.

It will be interesting to find out if others can see anything on my link's largely blank screen

Rivets,

You seem to have the dreaded, and much discussed, YouTube problem which I too suffer from 🙊

The blank space is a YouTube video, but it doesn’t show on an iPad running Safari. You previously raised this here (https://www.pprune.org/11375447-post2.html)

At a glance I thought that was my contribution to the research into it. I'd forgotten this. (long long hours for years on Quora seems to be absorbing my brain.)

I watch a lot of lectures via YouTube and I think, but not totally sure, PPRuNe is the only site that blanks them out.

I've just fired up my SONY VAIO i7 running W7* and it too fails to show the YouTube.

*Went back to W7 when Sony had no W10 drivers for this laptop. SONY told me that a group of investors had bought the VAIO name and SONY were not interested in wasting resources for a unit that had just missed their support for W10. The buttons supported by drivers were too handy to forgo but W7 is probably the reason it had been unused since November. Shame.

Moved over thanks.

I'm fairly sure I'd gone through these items, but just tried Ad Block off for a while. No change. Same with Malwarebytes. Cookies? Well I run CCleaner several times a day. Primarily because Face Book grinds to near standstill if I don't. I'll get it to turn off ignoring PPRuNe and see what happens.

Almost all posts are blank or refer to something I can’t see.

P.S., When I go back to the thread a second time, suddenly the links work and I can see them. ???

I'm recently fiding many posts aparently with links but none visible though others see them.
No changes made to my laptop whatsoever. Macbook Air Mojave 10.14.6 - this happens with both safari and Firefox.
Presumably PPrune's boffins have recently changed something fundamental? How to get around this?

Just to offer another viewpoint: Firefox 113.0.1 on a MacBook Pro with Ventura 13.3.1(a) and everything works fine. I'm also running Ublock Origin and it doesn't seem to have an influence as I'm seeing both Youtube and Twitter additions to posts.

Me too (on PC rather than Mac) - plus Privacy Badger, still no problems seeing YT & TWT.

I'm still seeing the problem on 3 different Windows 10 machines running both Chrome and Firefox.

Out of interest, are the people who aren't seeing this issue generally logged into their browser (eg user a Google or Firefox account)?

I believe I am using a FF account to synchronise browsers across multiple devices, if that's what you mean. I'm not sure I see the relevance, though, as the FF account in question isn't used for wider authentication purposes.

However, I also use Edge for various purposes, and this usage doesn't log into anything. I have no problem seeing images, TWT and YT links using Edge.

I'm speculating what the link might be between those who don't see the problem and those who do. I don't have a theory .....

Silly thought, but do you log in with the 'remember me' box ticked or not? I always tick that box and this leads to a different, persistent, cookie. I was just wondering if this could influence the situation.
