Hi, on the 7th of November, there was some trouble above, and the pictures of WAAS coverage showed what Iīd call a hole that pretty much covered Canada , north Canada, for a couple of hours. How is a WAAS trouble announced to pilots ? Maybe the electronics in the aircraft do it in real time, but how about planning a flight from A to B, which would normally have WAAS as a requirement for approaches or even departures ?
Thanks,
Klauss

A NOTAM of the WAAS outage should be published, if I recall correctly.

WAAS - or more accurately SBAS, since it depends where you are in the world - is only required for LPV approaches. So for the majority of ops it doesn't matter anyway. It is certainly not required for any depature or arrival I know, nor LNAV or LNAV/VNAV approaches.

OP, Could you please clarify?
Was this a loss of WAAS or a degradation?
Was this a confirmed outage, or a possibility?
Do you have the mentioned chart to share.
Many thanks.

Hi,
donīt know how to call it - no idea about the definitioin.
I guess it was a loss of WAAS for northern Canada, around 21z, 07 Nov, and overall, a degradation. 17:00 - 21:40 z.
Semantics.
The FAA website with all the info you may like is here: https://www.nstb.tc.faa.gov/
The movie of the day is here: https://www.nstb.tc.faa.gov/nstb-archive//VIDEOS/W2235D1/LPV_ServiceArea_w2235d1.avi
So, any NOTAM ? Any impacts, like diversions ?
Thanks a lot,
Klauss
