Flying down under

I would like to hear from people with experience in flying in Australia.

I am a holder of a JAA CPL, and I've been lucky enough to find a job in Western Australia.

Now, I've been wondering about conversion to an Australian licence i.e. what are the costs, how long does it take...all the practical stuff basically :)
From browsing the CASA site I understand that I need Air Law and Flight Rules written exam and a flight test. Anybody been through that?

The exams aren't too difficult compared to the JAR ones.
Air Law is an open book exam but very time limited. So you'll have to know where the relevant bits are. If you are changing an IR over you'll have to do the IR paper as well. That is the one you'll find the hardest. With a bit of work you'll get through that as well.
The flight test? I dare say if you can navigate visually and can do 1 in 60's you'll be fine as well. (Been a long time since I did a CPL flight test). If it's an IR, then it's no real drama either.
