Frontier and Spirit to merge, creating fifth-largest airline in U.S. in $6.6 billion deal

Frontier will have a 51%+ ownership of new company, but close to a merger of equals.

Now to merge the seniority lists...that's always entertaining.

Don't remind me. Had to do that with a three airline merger back when i was a union rep. Took years, was not fun at all and in the end we just ended up doing date of joining which was not fair at all. Not to me, i gained with that, but i can still call it out when i see it.

Yeah. The last two mergers/takeovers in my airline happened 30 and 35 years ago respectively, and people are still talking about them...

Frontier previously merged with Republic in the 2000s, I think? But there was another carrier involved too but cannot remember. I'll bet that the mgmt who oversaw that have moved on. If so, then it is the painful way again.

both ALPA carriers; so it’s a well prescribed and documented process.
good opportunity for some contractual gains in this market too… fingers crossed…

A bit of unfortunate timing for Frontier Frontier temporarily grounded - IT issue? neilki,

Yep, there sure is a process. You and I have both seen the aftermath of seniority list integrations. There will be people who end up very angry and will take that anger to the grave.

I was hired on the heels of one merger and sat through two others in the ensuing 31 years (my relative seniority in both cases moved up slightly). I sat next to some pretty angry people even though it was ALPA-to-ALPA in every case.

I feel for everyone involved in this process. Many pawns in the game.
