I never was into flight simming but as I’m watching a systems video on YT I’m thinking it may be worthwhile to prepare for proficiency checks.

What’s the technically most correct simulation program out there? I’m only interested in the 747-400/-8F.
Those included ? What are the mandatory add ons you need to buy? Airport data base?
Not looking for the best scenery just realistic airports, looking to practice flows, QRH procedures and SID/STAR’s.
No yoke/pedals needed.
Not looking for online “gaming”.
Just my everlasting quest to escape mediocrity.

Precision Simulator 744 by Aerowinx(?) was very good several years ago when I used it. I was on the -400 at the time and was impressed by its fidelity. Quite expensive but worth it. Don’t know if it’s still available as it was on CDs.

It's not a game but some training tool to simulate the actual cockpit operations and systems. Outside views are just basic the rest is beyond impressive.
There is a user forum: https://aerowinx.com/board/

You can probably get a B747-400 and use that in Microsoft Flight Simulator (or whatever it is currently called, I haven't kept up) but keep in mind that this IS a game, and while you can get add-ons for it (loads of them) that will create a situation that is pretty impressive, the basis is still that same game. You'll start by purchasing MSFS itself, that starts at €60 but quickly jumps to €150 when you want a more complex version. If you want to add a 747 by PMDG that will set you back $140 or more but I see that to be able to use that, you need to purchase Prepar3D, which is $199 unless you're a student (you may not need to get MSFS in that case, but I'm not sure).... it all adds up and I'm not sure that you will end up with a cheaper solution.

I used the original version of the Aerowinx software a long time ago and I can really recommend it. It will do everything you asked for... and more. And that is certainly the best, technically correct simulation of a 747-400 out there.

These people have a good reputation. P3D only, they are developing for MSFS. https://pmdg.com/pmdg-747-400-queen-of-the-skies-ii-base-package-for-prepar3d/
