We are seeing such a monumental breakthrough in the rotorcraft industry through remote monitoring HUMS systems. With the advancement of wireless technology, weight reduction, and cost reduction, more HUMS systems should now become installed on Part 27 helicopters. It's not just for Part 29 helicopters anymore.

What are some of the most important features that you believe would make a lightweight, remote monitoring HUMS adaptable by large Part 27 fleet operators? Also, why hasn't there been more of an adoption in this technology, even if it is not really mandated just yet?

Thank you for any feedback.

Requirement and cost can answer both questions. Unless HUMS is a requirement there is no perceved benefit to these type operators with a customer requirement being the main driver in those who do have some sort of HUMS installed in their 27 aircraft. Even if Part 27 were revised to mandate HUMS it would only affect new models certified and would not be retroactive. So unless someone can convince an operator with a 407 or S76 they will save more money than the cost of the HUMS over a sustained period I doubt any vendor will break into that market regardless how high tech, light weight, etc their equipment is.
