Good day all, I have an opportunity to be in BC for a month in October and want to do a "rusty pilots PPL course" in the Vancouver area. I am so rusty that my foreign licence has expired so will need to start as if I am ab intio. So I guess medical, student licence and as many hours as I can cram in.

From the ground revision point of view I have the FAA books, FAR/AIM, ASA Private Pilot Test prep, ASA Oral Exam guide from when I hoped to be in the USA in October but plans changed. I think I am looking for the Canadian equivalents, as I assume that the FAA stuff will be just different enough to catch you out in the ground school tests. I see that Canada prints its own AIM.

What books and online resources do Canadians use for revision and test prep for the local exams? I last flew two years ago with around 300 hours recent GA experience up to that time.

Many thanks

And the Transport Canada AIM.

If you can find members "Photofly", or "Big Pistons Forever",they can tell you exactly. BPF has local knowlege of BC flight training.

Inquire at Victoria (on the Island, beautiful place), Boundry Bay (south of Vancouver) or Pitt Meadows (east of Vancouver). There are other good instruction airports further east of Vancouver too...

For rules and procedures, the AIM: Transport Canada Aeronautical Information Manual (TC AIM) - TP 14371 (https://tc.canada.ca/en/aviation/publications/transport-canada-aeronautical-information-manual-tc-aim-tp-14371)
as well as the Study and Reference Guides: Study and Reference Guides/Sample Examinations (canada.ca) (https://tc.canada.ca/en/aviation/licensing-pilots-personnel/flight-crew-licences-permits-ratings/study-reference-guides-sample-examinations)
Of particular interest will be the PSTAR Student Pilot Permit or Private Pilot Licence for Foreign and Military Applicants, Aviation Regulations - TP 11919 (canada.ca) (https://tc.canada.ca/en/aviation/publications/student-pilot-permit-private-pilot-licence-foreign-military-applicants-aviation-regulations-tp-11919)

For flying skills, the Flight Training Manual

Excellent guys, just the local knowledge I was looking for. The South American River will be getting an order from me shortly...

The PSTAR is interesting and I can see needs to be learned well. All familiar stuff, but easy to make a mistake on reading the question.

I shall be in eastern Vancouver so Pitt Meadows or Boundary Bay will probably be the most convenient. Didn't Pitt Meadows used to be a locator for YVR on westerly landings? It comes to mind in the sludge of my memory...

Many thanks
