"If you live overseas you must quarantine in the place you are staying (https://www.gov.uk/guidance/how-to-quarantine-when-you-arrive-in-england) while in England, except while you are undertaking the exempt activity or travelling as part of your work."

Are all crew-members quarantining in their hotels when on overnights in the UK? What is the exemption above? Aren't all pilots travelling as part of their work?

My wife flies for DL and yes, they have to stay in their hotels rooms in the UK unless traveling to/from the airport or going down to the front desk for temperature checks.

Again yes. If our European colleagues come to uk for sim sessions they should stay in their rooms apart from when travelling to/from and in the sim.

It depends.

AFAIK commute/position into the UK as a passenger, not as part of the operating crew, and you’ll be required to self-isolate (“quarantine”), even if you are traveling in prior to duty.

The exemption is so that the crewmember can leave quarantine to travel directly to/from a place of duty such as training, or to operate at any time during their isolation period.

FWIW I suspect the wording is as it is (“place you are staying”, rather than “in your hotel”) because it allows those non UK resident crew arriving from an Amber list country who have the option of self isolating somewhere other than a hotel can do so.
