Has OJTI started at many units yet?

At the unit I am at we have started some refresher work with the hope of starting live training in July which will be supplemented by sim work but no official date as to when that will happen yet

My unit has continued training throughout the pandemic for ATCOs working towards their second validation, restarted training for previously valid at other unit ATCOs in December, and will soon restart the training of a new ATCO. Fairly early on in the pandemic the decision was taken that stopping all training to wait for traffic levels to pick up to busy levels would potentially lead to staff shortages in the next couple of years, as we might be waiting for something that never happens and meanwhile we have staff coming up for retirement etc.

How have your unit managed social distancing or have trainees formed bubbles with their ojti?
I imagine everything will be a lot easier when the social distancing rules relax next month

Social distancing is managed - numbers of people in ops rooms are restricted. But we have the ability for OJTI to physically sit at an adjacent console (suitably distanced) to the trainee, as the screens are mirrored and the trainee electronic strip board can be shared. Also OJTIs wear masks.

If the OJTIs are wearing masks at an adjacent console then how do they instantly override the RTF and take control?

They are still plugged into the exact same headset jack as the trainee, so can override the RT normally if required (OJTI always use their headset PTT switch to transmit rather than a foot switch anyway). Wearing the mask hasn’t been a problem for sound quality of the transmissions so far, but if the mask was proving an issue they would remove it as necessary.
