Well after the Boarding Pass and Seat Belt sign another question comes to mind.

Why arm rests should be down for landing and take off? And please do not make comment about fat people and squizzing between arm rests.

1) Because in a crash rated at 16g, which is the test level for a modern seat, the arm rest would come crashing down behind you and crack your ribs an almighty blow, the arm may only weigh 1kg but at 16 g that will do you an additional mishchief above and beyond the call of duty.

2) It helps restrain a passenger during a crash from sideways movement so you don't end up with three passengers on one seat.

Another reason....
if the armrest goes too far back - ie into the row behind, it could stop those pax from getting out in an evacuation.
