Hello all,

I completed my first ATPL exam in December 2019 which would normally lead to a date of June 2021 by which all 14 must be completed. I am aware of ORS 1425 and ORS 1464 but am struggling to understand the context and what it means to me at this point. Seemingly ORS 1425 extended my deadline by a further 6 months (to December 2021) but needed to be applied for, which I did not do. This ORS has now expired and replaced by ORS 1464 and I am unclear if this allows me any extension. I can't really understand the text to be honest and any guidance as to whether I am eligible for a deadline extension ( and if so, is it automatic or require application to the CAA). OR, as I suspect have I missed the boat and need to get a wiggle on, or have I totally misunderstood the meaning of both ORSes completely?

Any advice greatly appreciated,

Hi Beethoven,

I am just finishing ATPL exams and was also unsure about how the various extensions applied to me. I emailed FCL exams and said something along the lines of “I understand extension X means that I have until date Y to complete my exams. Please confirm this is correct”. They replied confirming, so I knew exactly where I stood and had it in writing straight from the horse’s mouth.

I hope that helps and good luck with the exams.

If you don't do the work you won't pass the exams

Thanks SuperMatt, I think I'll do what you say and drop a line to the CAA. Good luck with yours too.

You should be covered by this extension in ORS4 No.1488 (https://publicapps.caa.co.uk/modalapplication.aspx?catid=1&pagetype=65&appid=11&mode=detail&id=10387) (21 Apr 2021).

Ignore the spurious reference to FCL.740(a).

Para 5 probably doesn't apply to you.

Thanks so much for bringing my attention to this, just what I needed. Brilliant.
