Hi all,

got myself into a brexit soli pickle!

UK ATPL holder flying for UK AOC G Reg aircraft as a day job. In December completed my initial FI(A) rating at UK ATO - simple so far?! Was going to send application off just after Xmas as this was late dec and I had a temp certificate anyway.

Xmas Eve, out of fear of brexit and having to do exams again should I ever wish to work in Europe i soli’d to Malta. Jan - Malta license arrives with ratings on it including my first issue of the FI because I asked them to add that in the process. Still with me?

Now, this week I checked the validations on CAA website and it seems I’m okay thank God to fly G Reg aircraft for my day job but NOT okay to instruct since the FI was not on my uk licence prior to SOLI.

is this correct?

When I apply for a UK FCL which I now can, what will happen - will they accept my Maltese issued FI?

Should I just get the UK FCL first then apply direct for the FI onto it with UK forms (since it was done at a UK ATO on a UK licence at the time)? Perhaps though this will be 6 months post skill test?!

thanks for your guidance I’ve been a bit of silly Susan!

In danger of seeing a problem that isn't there. When you apply for your UK licence based on the EASA one, add a letter explaining that you require the FI to be included and with a brief explanation. The UK CAA will have your FI application details. If they require anything else they will ask for it.

From the recent webinars it is fair to say the CAA is keen to resolve these issues as they arise. It is likely that the website will remain behind events for some time.

from the CAA micro site:

All privileges endorsed on your licence at the time of transfer from the UK will be endorsed onto the UK Part-FCL/BFCL/SFCL licence. Any additional privileges from the EU Part-FCL/BFCL/SFCL will also be endorsed onto the UK Part-FCL/BFCL/SFCL, excluding any National or Restricted Ratings.

So your FI should come back across no problem (just like my TRI going the other way - oh hang on, that’s right “They forgot to put it on”.
