Wondering if anyone can help solve a question for me?

The 737 runaway stabilizer memory items calls for STAB TRIM cutout switches (both) cutout as part of the memory items but is there any scenario out there where is might be appropriate to cut either ‘main elect’ or ‘Autopilot’. Of course I would follow the QRH memory items but just looking to increase my understanding of the system. I see in the Max the stab trim has been renamed as ‘primary’ and ‘backup’ but I haven’t been able to find any reason behind this renaming.

Thanks in advance.

The MAX differs from the NG in that the MAX switches are in series and either remove power from the trim motor. The NG has each power circuit isolated by main trim switch and autopilot.

I've wondered why the change. I'm guessing it has to do with The System That Shall Not Be Named.
