Auckland Charts - meaning of (ATC) beside waypts in STAR chart

Hi there,

Does anyone know what does the (ATC) beside the waypoint in the star chart means? For eg. EMRAG (ATC). Any official doc would be good. I can't find it in Jepps Glossary.

Perhaps it means that the speed restriction is only applicable if ATC invoke it?

Methinks that is the advertised speed restriction unless otherwise advised by ATC. Open for correction though.

Good question. According to the NZ AIP it means "ATC Restriction". Make of that what you will. It seems superfluous in that the maximum speed is what it is published to be regardless. The speed restrictions in this case would seem to be more restrictive than generic airspace or holding restricitions and so I interpret this note to mean "this is the local ATC default maximum speed and is more restrictive than standard". Also, what McHale said. But I don't know for sure.

The speed restriction is for ATC purposes and not related to procedure design. An ATC speed can be cancelled. A speed tied to the construction of a procedure (think PANS-OPS requirements) can not be.

Same for TERPs in the U.S., although "ATC" is usually associated with an altitude that is not needed for obstacle clearance.
