Hello ,

I would like to know the correct way of logging Copilot hours is there an official document from EASA ?

If I am flying in a multi crew Aircraft and I am sitting on the Right seat ( qualified on right seat only ) as PF how do I log it ? I understand as Co-pilot hours not PIC unless the Pic makes an entry in the log book and sign it .

Thank you .

The Aircrew Regulation
FCL.050 Recording of flight time
The pilot shall keep a reliable record of the details of all flights flown in a form and manner established
by the competent authority. Logging requirements are set Nationally.
(2) co-pilot flight time: the holder of a pilot licence occupying a pilot seat as
co-pilot may log all flight time as co-pilot flight time on an aircraft on
which more than one pilot is required under the type certification of the
aircraft, or the regulations under which the flight is conducted;

Logging requirements are set Nationally ...meaning it depends in the state if issue of the license ?

Thanks .

As an FO you are PICUS if PF. You won’t be PIC unless nominated as such by the company you work for and have P1 rating for that type.

Nonsense.

As an FO you are P2/SIC - it doesn't matter whether you're PF or PM. Anyone with a pilots licence should know this.

If you to not have 250 PIC hours to upgrade your CPL to an ATPL, then you may act as and log PICUS under certain conditions, in order to meet that requirement.
If you have an MPL, PICUS is the only option - in which case you'll need 500 if memory serves.
If you're acting as PICUS, that's what you are, it has nothing to do with PF or PM

Logging any more PICUS than you need is pointless, and an FO claiming to have 1000 PICUS hours on a jet will certainly raise a few eyebrows.

I logged mine that way for many many years and never had an eyebrow raised and certainly way more than 1000hrs .......

And you put that on a CV?

FO can certainly log PICUS when PF

No, but the question was logging

rudestuff's #5 is absolutely accurate. Ref. EASA Part FCL, or any other older versions one can find.

Incorrect..... rudestuff explained it well

PICUS means Pilot in Command Under Supervision

To log PICUS time as an FO, it needs to be defined in the company documents and approved by the competent authority. It also involves few more duties except being PF
It's clearly defined in PART-FCL AMC1 FCL.050 (b) (5):
"PICUS flight time: provided that the method of supervision is acceptable to the competent authority, a co-pilot may log as PIC flight time flown as PICUS when all the duties and functions of PIC on that flight were carried out in such a way that the intervention of the PIC in the interest of safety was not required."

So logging PICUS time without proper approval is not only wrong but also illegal

FO can certainly log PICUS when PF

Can? Sure, if the PIC countersigns the logbook after each flight, and other requirements set out by the operator.

Will it make any difference whatsoever, apart from fulfilling requirements for ATPL issue? No.

FO can certainly log PICUS when PF
For that matter they could also log it when PM...

thank you Rudestuff .

I have had spoken to different pilots over the last and they said the same . Where can I find in any EASA doc where it says Copilot can log copilot hours when PF ?

I doubt you will find that written anywhere as it's irrelevant. Think of it this way: an airline Captain is PIC regardless of whether they're handling or not. Being in command and operating the controls are two different things.
